The left of two identical Renaissance houses is closely connected with the name of Lucas Cranach the Elder who came to Weimar in 1552. In its attic, the painter began - at the age of 80 - his last great work: the altarpiece for the town church. After his death, it was finished by his son or one of his pupils. Over the right archway of the house one can see the symbol of Cranach: the winged snake.    back
